Evaluating Your Performance at Work

Evaluating your performance simply means looking at what your input and results and compare it with the laid down or implied objectives. There are several questions that you can use to assess your performance at work. Some of the questions you may ask yourself include; how am I doing? Have I met the deadline? It is possible to evaluate yourself in terms of performance in accordance with the company goals. Similarly you can evaluate yourself by comparing what you have achieved with your co-workers achievement. It is also possible to evaluate yourself against the goals that you have formulated during a particular period of time.

Performance is subjective and in most cases it is dependent on your job description. Sometimes the job description defines your daily routine which may not easily fit in to the companies’ goals. In this case you must come up with your own targets to achieve. What must be remembered here is that you are the one who know your job and consequently, you can tell when you are doing a good job or when you have veered off. The most important thing that you should keep in mind is that as employees, being goal oriented and self driven is the key to meeting the set objectives. In some cases you may be forced to alter the objectives. In this case you do not have to wait for your employer to tell you what to do. Your ability to set your own goals or adjust your schedule in accordance with the tasks requirements makes your job exciting because it often gives you a new task to tackle.
Self evaluation In as far as personal goals are concerned demands for honesty. Remember there are companies set objectives waiting to be achieved .These aggregate goals can be said to be achieved if the individual objectives are achieved.  Most employees do not like being evaluated because they think the results of the evaluation will be used to determine the placement and the salary that they earn. They also imagine that the results may be used for appraisal purposes and hence fear of the exercise. Evaluating your performance at your place of work is an integral part of the companies operation and if it is correctly done it helps employees’ compare their performance to what they are expected to do.
